Do you want to build a tiny soft computer?

So, we're doing things a bit differently this year for Softer Digital Futures!

Instead of a classic conference program with talks, panels and listening (though there will be some of that too), you'll get hands-on with building cyberdecks, servers and electronic jewellery, build magical worlds with creative software, and join communal conversations about your hopes and dreams for digital futures.

You'll be able to choose from a wide range of workshops spanning hardware, software and worldware*.

We've compiled a selection of workshops that we're excited by. But if you're interested in viewing the full program, go here.

Note: Workshop sign-up opens on September 17. Everyone who bought a ticket will receive a guide on how to sign up for workshops soon.

Tiny Soft Computers#

Hardware Workshop

A hands-on workshop on making – and teaching – soft electronics. You will learn the process of building a tiny soft computer, made from fabric, wiring and simple electronic parts.

No prior experience with code, hardware, or soldering is required.

Digital Care Lab#

Worldware Workshop

How does your digital self feel today? This workshop uses reflection and creative collage-making to imagine softer digital futures and craft a tactile collage, taken home as a digital wallpaper.

Glitch: Planting the Cyborg City#

Software Workshop

This workshop will use the nature-tech platform Glitch to explore how technologies, digital tools and living systems can shape greener cities. You’ll co-design with drawing, mapping, and talk to a chatbot, then collectively plant a garden at the conference.

The Softest Shop#

Open Call

This year we will have a shop for attendees and contributors to sell their creations at! The shop will be an emporium of a variety of items from hardware products, jewellery to prints and one of one art pieces.

The shop will be managed by one of our volunteers so you are only required to bring your items to us and collect any unsold merchandise at the end! No profits will be taken by us and you will make 100% of the earnings from each sale.

If you would like to bring some items with you to sell please email us at detailing the items, the quantity and the price. 

NOTE: Due to logistics, we are unable to accept items shipped from abroad and will only be able to accommodate items physically brought to the conference.
